August Bark About Hike: Intro to Backpacking

Date:
Sunday, August 13, 2017 - 9:00am to 5:00pm

Have you been curious about backpacking, but intimidated by all the details? Going for a hike is a great way to plan a backpacking trip! Bark hike leaders Lo Goldberg and Bob Koscik will lead a fun hike and discuss the ins and outs of backpacking. We'll focus on food, water, and waste, as well as what to pack.

Our hike will take us through a beautiful area along the Clackamas River. This forest is essential for clean water, wildlife, and Oregon’s growing recreation economy, but it's threatened by several large proposed logging projects. In joining this hike, you can support Bark's work to protect this area and learn something new about backpacking!

Although smoke levels in Oregon are projected to decrease over the weekend, we recommend checking out these resources before attending the hike if you are a person with asthma, heart and lung disease, an older adult or are bringing children:

Carpools leave from the Hollywood Trader Joe’s, 4121 NE Halsey, (across the street from the Hollywood Transit Center, near the I-84 exit 2) in Portland at 9am sharp. If you are able to drive, we greatly appreciate your contribution to helping make a successful hike. If you are looking for a ride, please come prepared to reimburse your driver.  If you would like to arrange a meet-up closer to the forest, please let us know by giving us a call at our number below.

Bring a lunch, water, and anything else you'll need to stay comfortable in the forest. To protect off-trail resources, we ask you to leave your dog at home.

Call Bark at 503-331-0374 for more details and information.

If you are willing to drive in our carpool, please review Bark's Driver Safety Expectations before coming.
